THE DAY BEFORE YOUR VOLUME STUDY:
- Eat a normal diet the day before your volume study. You may have regular food such as meat, potatoes, etc. However, please avoid gas-forming foods such as cabbage, onions, baked beans, broccoli, cauliflower, and green peppers. Any gas or stool in the lower rectum will interfere with the ultrasound pictures.
THE DAY OF YOUR VOLUME STUDY:
- Drink clear liquids only until your volume
study is over. Do not eat solid foods or milk
products the morning of the study. See Clear Liquid Diet Instructions.
- Give yourself a fleet enema at least two
hours before you are scheduled to arrive at
the center. This enema should be given at ________________.
If you would like assistance with the administration
of the enema, please bring it with you and inform
the nurse.
- Do not apply lotion, oil or powder to your chest area.
- Continue to take any prescribed medications at your regular time.
- Your volume
study will be performed at the Arnold Palmer
Prostate Center at Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer
Center. Our facility is located at 39000 Bob
Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage, California 92270.

* Fleet enema can be purchased over-the-counter at your local pharmacy.
- It is necessary
to have an volume study completed before your
prostate seed implant. The volume study is done
with a special ultrasound unit, and it produces
the "picture measurements" of your prostate.
These "picture measurements" are used by the
radiation oncologist and the physicist who calculate
the number of seeds, the placement of the seeds,
and the ideal dose of radiation required for
implantation into your prostate.
